Dragons host Essendon in season finale

Doncaster’s A Grade side will be looking to end their historic 2017 winter season on a high this Sunday when they host Essendon in the final game of the regular season.

Despite both teams already guaranteed to miss the finals, there will still be plenty to play for when Sunday comes around.

A victory for the Dragons will clinch the club’s first ever A Grade single-season sweep, having already defeated Essendon earlier in round nine, whilst a win for Essendon would be their first of the season

Last time the two clubs met Doncaster’s pitchers combined to no-hit Essendon as the Dragons claimed a 5-0 at Boeing Reserve.

Essendon will have some extra motivation when they take the field on Sunday, the winless Bombers are set to be relegated to B Grade next season with the club already condemned to finish last on the A Grade ladder.

Whilst the Dragons can go neither up or down on the ladder regardless of the result -they currently sit ninth, three games clear of Essendon and three games behind eighth-placed Greensborough - they will still be hoping they can finish the year on a high note.

Securing a fourth win would be a great boost for the club, helping to cement their position in A Grade.

Finishing ninth on the ladder may not sound great, but avoiding relegation and finishing within a couple of games of the finals-chasing pack is still a great result in the club’s first A Grade season.

The Dragons boast a couple of impressive victories this season, they defeated second-placed Forest Hill 6-0 in round two, finals-contender Watsonia 1-0 in round 14 and Essendon 5-0 in round nine.

Doncaster will be looking to post another superb win on Sunday.

First pitch is scheduled for 1:30 pm at Deep Creek Reserve.
