New women’s coaching team for 2019/20 season

On the eve of the 20th anniversary of the Doncaster Baseball Club’s women’s program, the club is excited to announce a new coaching structure for the 2019/20 season.

Ursula Howard will return as Head Coach for a third straight season, fresh from leading the program to finals appearances in all three divisions, punctuated by a premiership in Div 3.

In an exciting appointment, club stalwart Amy McCann returns to the club following a two-year hiatus which saw her undertake a playing and coaching role in Victorian Premier League cricket. McCann, a 12-year member of both the Australian and Victorian women’s baseball teams, will assume the newly created role of High-Performance Manager while also performing game-day managing duties for the Firsts.

Samantha Hamilton, who led the Doncaster women’s program as Head Coach for thirteen seasons, also returns following two seasons coaching and playing in Victorian Premier League cricket. Hamilton, an inaugural member of the Australian, Victorian and Doncaster programs, will provide invaluable guidance and advice as Assistant Coach.

Having cut her teeth in the coaching ranks at the Essendon Baseball Club, current Australian team member Bronwyn Gell will join Hamilton as an Assistant Coach.

The club is also pleased to announce that Andrew Weller and Donna D’avoine will return to coach the 2nds and 3rds, after taking these teams to a grand final and a premiership, respectively, last season. Donna is looking for assistance with 3rds trainings; please contact the club if you are interested.

In honour of the women’s program’s 20th anniversary, a number of activities and celebrations will be held across the season and will be announced in the coming months.
