Progress on Tikalara expansion

Tikilara Proposed Diamond Layout
John Hollingsworth, Saturday, 30 June 2012

Club holds discussions with council on Tikilara.

Discussions are progressing between club officials and Manningham Council on the proposed expansion of Doncaster Baseball Club to Tikalara Reserve.

Draft plans have been submitted to Council together with supporting letters from Baseball Victoria and the Board of Doncaster Baseball Club.

Recent advice from Manningham Council is that “there is minimum 2 years of planning work involved prior to any type of use on the (Tikilara) site i.e. Cultural heritage management plan, vegetation impact assessment, planning permit and agreement signed with Parks Victoria for use of the site.  We can commence planning in the next year and then reassess future capital works budgets with the new Council.  There doesn't appear to be any quick solutions to this one, but I think this is a great outcome for the club at this stage”

It is proposed that we retain our existing facilitiy at Deep Creek Reserve, continuing to use Deep Creek as our primary diamond and making further capital improvements at this facility.  The preferred diamond layout (above) at Tikilara includes a full senior enclosed diamond, an Under 14 enclosed diamond and an Under 12 diamond with an outfield that can also be used as a training area for other sports.

The club Board acknowledges the efforts of David Medlin for making good progress on the Tikilara expansion with council in the past 2 years.

So, while it is still 2-3 years until we see the new field materialise, it will be a great step forward to get initial plans endorsed by Council.
