Thursday, 8 October 2009 Sessions will begin October 16.
The Doncaster Baseball Club is committed to the development of junior girls in baseball and is pleased to announce its 2009/10 Friday Night Under 15 Girls Development Program.
The unique opportunity will allow girls aged 12-14 from all over north-east Melbourne to come and train under the guidance of some highly qualified and experienced coaches at the great facilities at Doncaster's Deep Creek Reserve. And all for free!
Sessions will begin on Friday October 16 and will run from 6.30pm-8pm. There junior girls will be able to:
- Receive coaching & instruction from some of the best women's players and coaches in Australia
- Learn tips and techniques
Train in a safe, friendly, girls only environment
- Play some fun games
- Meet new friends
- Have a great time!
- At no cost with equipment provided!
The program will be coordinated by longtime Doncaster Baseball Club member Amy McCann, a current Australian and Victorian team representative and recipient of the Baseball Australia 2007 Female Player of the Year award.
A current Level 2 Coach, McCann has a wealth of experience in the area having been an integral component to the commencement of the inaugural Victorian junior girls program a few years ago.
It began in 2005 with a series of junior girls clinics held at Doncaster BC and quickly expanded into a Saturday morning U14 competition with girls travelling from all across Melbourne and Victoria to take part.
McCann then became the Head Coach of the inaugural Victorian junior girls team in 2006 which travelled to an interstate tournament in Sydney ('Victorian U14 Girls Baseball team claim runners up title and turn heads in Sydney') and then coached the Victorian Junior Girls 'Elite' team in Melbourne in 2007.
Many of the players involved in these programs have progressed to senior womens baseball at Doncaster, with a couple moving on to representative ranks. Bronwyn Gell, 16, was selected in her first Australian Womens Squad earlier this year, whilst Courtney Foura, 17, has represented Victoria.
Also coaching the program will be fellow Australian and Victorian team representative and Level 2 Coach, Samantha Hamilton, the current Doncaster Baseball Club Senior Women's Head Coach.
If you are a girl aged 14 and under and are interested in playing baseball please contact us. Even if you are playing Sunday morning metro/state baseball, you are more than welcome!
