Sunday, 9 November 2008 Scores and reports from all Doncaster BC junior games.
Under 18 State - Doncaster 7 Upwey FTG 3
Another great game of baseball by the boys on Sunday morning being rewarded with a win 7-3. Playing Upwey at home the boys turned up to play. Josh Horan had another sloid outing getting thru and 1/3 giving up only 2 runs. Sjowing his wealth as a week in week out starter. Everyone swung the bat well with stand outs Tony Clapp 2 for 3, Leigh Bertrand 2 for 3 and Josh Lucas opening his account with a well hit triple.Defensively solid this week with Sam lethborg spotting up behind the dish showing good hands. The team is beginning to find balance and the rest of the season is looking promising. Sean Pascoe

Trivia Question - when is a grand slam only worth one run?
Answer – when the runner on 3rd base is the seventh run in a junior game innings.
But let’s back the truck up a bit. On a great morning for baseball the boys travelled out to Upwey for what on paper promised to be a close game.
Despite some very good defence by our boys, in particular Hugh Reid, Mitch Cowie and Jun, the home team played some pretty good ball and kept putting runs on the board.
At the same time behind some decent pitching they managed to keep us scoreless.
But as has been proven twice this season already the game is very definitely not over until the large lady exercises the larynx.
With time all but up we go into the last 7 in the hole and in danger of being shut out for the first time this season. Nick lead off with a single and when Daniel followed up with another hit the flame flickered ever so slightly. Andrew Reeeves, with 3 hits in the game already walked and hits to Kingy and Hugh and we were on the board.
Enter the Tigers third pitcher and they get an out but good at bats by Simon and Mitch to walk and the tieing run was on base.
Ryan, coming off an ankle injury that had kept him out of the line up for a couple of weeks, pinch hit and drove one down the line to push us to within two. Nick took one off the helmet and with one out we have the tieing run at 3rd.
Daniel then drove a long, long ball over the centre field fence for a grand slam.
10 -7 you say, but under junior rules only 7 runs in an inning can score so the scoreline is actually 7 all.
After retiring the first two hitters the number 9 batter walks to again give hope to the Tigers. But a great throw by Andrew to Kingy covering and the final out is made on the runner trying to steal.
For the 3rd time this season the boys have a tie, this one full of great come from behind baseball that all the boys can be proud of being part of.
Hits : Reeves, McGrath 3; Reid 2; King, Cowie, Lea, Hollingsworth 1 each.
