What a great season the Juniors had this Winter Season!
Our U11s teamed up with Research and had lots of fun. They learned alot and I am sure the coach lost some hair!! Bradley Synnot took out the MVP for the season - congratulations !! Great season to Gabriel Bethune, Creed Butler-Zelen, Michael Dordevic, Tim Dalzotto, Lachlan Mahon and Bradley Synnot !
Our U13s were coached by Paul Burgoine and Andrew Sayers. They started off the season very well - at Round 9 they were 2nd on ladder 5-3-1, but then things went a bit wayward and they lost the last three games of the season, dropping into 5th place and just missing out on the finals. Their main pitcher, Mark Sayers, was missing for the last part of the season after being selected to represent Australia in Japan. The boys did us proud and took that next step in their development. Congratulations on a great season to Jed Bastian, Jack Burgoine, Matthew Dalzotto, Jed Kelly, Alex Lalidis, Kate Lethborg, Jelle Meijer, Ryan Synnot, Ryan Taylor, Marc Sayers, and Andrew Kelso. Trophy winners were MVP Marc Sayers, Coaches Award Ryan Taylor and Batting Award Ryan Synnot.
Our U15s combined with GMBC and were coached by Rod Lethborg and Chris Whyte (GMBC). They had some very strong competition this season and did a great job to come in 4th and make it into the finals. They lost 8 - 7 in a nail bitter 1st Semi Final to Watsonia. The kids did a great job all season. Congratulations to our Doncaster players - Kobey Bastian, Jayden Clay, Kei Ishikawa, Callum Lethborg, Oliver Lodge, Koen Meijer and Bas Meijer. And congratulations to our Monty teammates Simon Fitzmaurice, James Delaney,Adam Johnstone, and Matthew Masterton. Trophy winners were MVP Simon Fitzmaurice, Fielding Kei Ishikawa and Coaches Award Matt Masterton.
Our U17s was a very young team, with 6 of our players still eligible for U15s, but decided to take the U17 challenge this season. And the team did fantastic. Coached by Mark Ellis and Phil Bertrand the boys finished on top of the ladder, only losing one game in the regular season (11-1-2). All the boys did a great job, we had three new players to baseball and they held their own. Their Finals campaign did not go very well. They lost to Knox in the first game 5 -1 (the only team they lost to in the regular season). They then faced Greensborough and won 11 - 1, having then go into the Grand Final to face Knox.
After being down 4 – zip after the 1st inning, they fought back to be up 5 – 4 going into the bottom of the last inning. Unfortunately we gave up two runs and lost 6 – 5. The boys should be proud of their achievement this season and watch out Winter 2009! Congratulation on a great season to Mitchell Ross, Daniel McGrath, Jack Ellis, Leigh Bertrand, Daniel Martin, Andrew Reeves, John King, Ryan Lea, Ben Kernick, Sam Lethborg and Oliver Knight.
